On November 1, ADL Dance Company (made up of students from the Academy for Discovery at Lakewood) performed at a ceremony held to mark the opening of the restored Bray School in Williamsburg, Virginia. The Bray School is the oldest extant building in the United States dedicated to the education of African American children. The event was a collaboration between the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and William & Mary's Bray School Lab, honoring the school's historic significance as a symbol of race, religion, and education in early America.
Notable speakers at the ceremony included Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch III, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Chair Carly Fiorina, and former Virginia Supreme Court Justice John Charles Thomas.
