Norfolk Public Schools’ 5th graders returned to Naval Station Norfolk for Navy STEM Day/Fleet Fest 2024 on October 18. The event allowed students to learn from both uniformed and civilian members of the US Navy, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps. Young scholars toured the Navy amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima, destroyer USS Gonzalez, and Coast Guard cutters Nathan Bruckenthal and Vigorous. They also participated in a wide variety of hands-on, real-world demonstrations of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) including virtual/augmented reality, robotics, aircraft, and computer science.
